![]() ![]() That's the equivalent of 3 years of full time employment. I find it astonishing that anyone would listen to a 200 hour book series thirty times. I just wouldn't chose to use them as my sole way of reading a text I was studying, and nor would I allow my children to do so. I acknowledge that this is a personal preference, but it is one shared with people with whom I have discussed audiobooks. I personally find it easy to cast my eye up a page to re-read a short section rather than fiddle around rewinding and fastforwarding to get to the right point. Many people, the majority of readers, can read for an hour or even longer! Equally, plenty of people drift off occasionally when listening to audioooks, including me. I'm sorry you're unable to read hard copies of books. I accept that not everyone, including you it seems, does. It's not unusual to annotate one's own copy of a book of which one is doing a close study. ![]() I'm not some nutter who hangs around r/audiobooks despite having no interest in them. If one can remember a specif sequence of 3 or so words from the audio one is currently listening to, it is easy to search for and locate that sequence of words in an electronic version of the text. I find such a feature to be unnecessary however. If you want to examine part of the text more closely, you just rewind 30 seconds or 2 minutes or whatever and listen to it again.Īnd of course Amazon offers products like whisper sync which will synchronize the electronic text and audiobook play back. I can quote long passages from it and identify passages and contextualize their significance down to very precise points in a long arc of about 5,000 pages. For example I must have listened to A Song of Ice and Fire 20-30 times. One can set a specific night's reading or a particular chapter to replay over and over again. In contrast one can play an audiobook on repeat. Often I would find that I had been physically "reading" a hard copy of a book only to realize after an hour or so that I had no idea what I had just read. I certainly never annotated a book I was assigned to read. this seems like the type of comment someone who doesn't use audiobooks would make.įirst it assumes that a student would do this type of reach in the first.
